DIY Aloe Vera Face mask

April 27, 2015

Hey there. How was your weekend? Mine was a little bit of work and a little relaxing time. So in all a pretty good one. I also made this DIY Aloe Vera face mask for myself. Which got me thinking that it would be a perfect Mother’s Day gift too! It’s super easy to make and you could also add it to a SPA gift basket if you are planning to give one . Just add a cute handwritten tag and voila! you have an excellent personalized gift ready. Don’t worry if you do not have an aloe plant, you get one very easily at your local grocery store. I was lucky enough to have one in my patio.

Why an aloe mask you ask? well aloe vera is an excellent exfoliating agent. Reduces blemishes and spots. It is good for your skin and has no side affects at all. Also, when you just cut out an outer leaf of the plant, it does not affect the growth of the rest of the plant in any way ( this is for those of you who might feel guilty cutting of a perfectly good plant ).

Here is what you need: One leaf ( 18 inches ) of a medium aloe plant, juice and zest of 1 large lemon, 2 tablespoons of honey.

Procedure: Cut the leaf right at the bottom and near the center of the plant. Take a sharp knife and slice off the flat side of the leaf. Scoop out the pulp from the concave side of the leaf with a sharp edged spoon into a bowl. Add the lemon zest, juice and honey. Churn this mixture in a blender till all the ingredients are completely mixed together.

Storage: This mixture can last up to 1 week in the refrigerator. If you would like to preserve it for more time, you could store it in the freezer and it should be fine for about a month.

Application: Apply it evenly on your face while making circular motions with your finger tips. Let it remain for about an hour and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
