New York In Black And White

July 23, 2015

I have visited New York a number of times now but I still remember my first visit and how I fell in LOVE with this city. Although the reasons for travel have been  many including friends, work or even a travel pit stop or change of flights. I remember this one time when I had two days to myself just to wander around. There was no agenda, no meetings or anything and it was just me strolling the streets with my camera and clicking away. Most of the times I prefer doing non touristy things (unless it’s something very famous and worth seeing) and explore the streets of the city. So, I decided to do a little experiment and capture the city of New York in Black and White. Why, you ask? well follow along and I’ll tell you!
I did not have a blog at the time so I haven’t posted these pics before. But just the other day I was going through my photo archives when I came across them. And thought I had to share them with you guys and tell y’all about my experience.

New-York-In-Black-And-White14New York is an extremely busy city with all sorts of noises, traffic, people, buildings, graffiti, street artist, restaurants, billboards etc. Sometimes when there is so much going it’s easy to miss the finer details. As humans scientifically too, we are biased towards certain colors or our eyes get attracted to certain colors and unintentionally we may miss out on our other surroundings. This happens to me a lot, I’m attracted to pinks, reds and yellows and all shades of these colors before I even notice anything else. There is an exercise you could do with your phones to find out what you are attracted to. Just choose a random street and click lots of pictures of what you think are most attractive. Come home and print them out. You will definitely find a pattern.  Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong in being attracted to certain colors. That’s how we all are wired I guess. But when you remove the color and start seeing things in monochrome, that’s when the eyes are not biased and you start noticing shapes and structures, contrasts and brightness. I wanted to see this beautiful city with a completely new outlook. And did I succeed? you bet!

Alt Summit (Summer 2015) – Part1

June 17, 2015

Hello there! I have finally put together a roundup of my trip to Alt Summit (Summer 2015) last week. There was so much I wanted to share with you guys that I thought I would break this down in two parts. Today in part 1 I’m talking about all the fun and the parties at AltSummer2015 along with a little bit about my stay in beautiful Salt Lake City. In part 2, I will be sharing a little more about the classes/talks I attended, my learnings, sources, activities and takeaways from the summit. Oh and just a heads up, there are more pictures in this post than usual but I promise they are pretty. If you’ve been following on instagram you may have seen a few. Hope you enjoy the rest!

ALT-SUMMIT-(SUMMER-2015)---PART1-1The conference is held at the beautiful Grand America Hotel however I stayed at the The Little America Hotel right across the street since it was a bit easier on the budget and the location was very convenient too. And it did not disappoint at all. In fact it was more than I expected and it has the cutest cafe facing main street which served one of the best breakfast in town!

Camping Trip // Garner State Park

June 2, 2015

camping-trip-garner-state-park-1camping-trip-garner-state-park-3Last memorial day weekend we went on a camping trip with a couple of our friends to Garner State Park in Concan,Tx. Its a beautiful and a pretty huge park, like really huge. Honestly, I never knew I would get to see mountains, valleys and river banks in the heart of Texas. The gorgeous frio river runs through the park which was flooded due to the rains but was still beautiful. Speaking of floods, yes we did see the weather forecast before leaving on saturday however there was no indication of a tornado warning at that time. Getting caught in the storm, that too twice! not pretty guys (did get caught on our way back too , more on that later) . So Garner State Park is about 4 and a half hours drive from Houston. We decided to leave saturday late afternoon and halt at town called Uvalde,  close to the park (30mins) so that we could make it to the hike tour at the park in the morning at 9.

Madison, Wisconsin Trip

May 21, 2015

Hello friends! I’m back, all charged up and refreshed after our super fun Madison, Wisconsin trip. I cannot wait to share the pics with you guys and tell you all about this beautiful little charming town. My husband and I visited Madison this past weekend to celebrate our five year wedding anniversary. He is an alumni of university of Madison,WI and wanted to show me his university town since the time we got married but for some reason our trip always got postponed cause of weather or work. This year we finally decided to go in spring and boy oh boy! what a gorgeous time to visit this place. I would also recommend fall (to see the fall colors) just before the cold kicks in. Also this was my first experience staying with Airbnb ( details below) A big thanks to designlovefest for the discount! you can grab one too here!
Madison-Wisconsin-Trip-39I would love to share every tiny detail of the trip with you guys but I have tried my best to keep it short and show you more of the pictures than listen to my jabber. First up are the beautiful old stone buildings I spotted in this town. University of Madison is pretty huge and consists of old and new buildings. My favorite one’s were the red/brown brick buildings with the ivy climbing all over.

Designforsoul // Journey so far

May 14, 2015

Designforsoul-journeysofar1Hey you guys! just wanted to share a little bit with you on designforsoul’s journey so far. I started this blog about 8 months ago. It became a place where I shared my creative ideas and thoughts. This last week however I felt that I needed to set some goals in order to achieve what I want to with DFS. For that I needed to step back, contemplate and do a little brainstorming. That is also the reason why you haven’t seen any new posts on the blog this week.  I’m also attending AltSummer2015 this year at AltSummit in June. I’m hoping to meet new people, fellow bloggers, brands and learn whatever I can from these creative minds and get a much needed fresh perspective.
Internet these days can get a little overwhelming. You see same/ repetitive ideas happening around. Frankly I needed a break from that. I remember in design school we used to often get these creative blocks after working on something for a long time. I’m planning to do a few things from what we used to do then to kind of get out of it. One of them is travel! See new things , open your eyes and senses and see the same world in a different light.
I have been busy this week thinking about introducing some new columns on Designforsoul, including more of my artwork, also featuring other artists. I did this when I started the blog but kind of drifted away from it . So all in all I want to do something different on Designforsoul this year! Bring a fresh new perspective and it all starts from this weekend.
My husband & I are traveling to Madison,WI for our anniversary. Why Madison ? well it’s my husband’s college town which he wanted to show me for quite sometime now and I have never been there before so it’s going to be fun. Also, traveling always inspires me with a lot of new ideas. Hopefully this trip will be the first step to the new journey I want to take with Designforsoul. I promise the next coming weeks on the blog will be more fun filled with new ideas and inspirations.

P.S.  You can follow me on instagram all along for the pics and the latest updates! Love you guys for reading!
