To see the exact list of materials you need and the stepwise explanation, see my previous post on wooden coasters. Just make sure you get the hang of  using the wood burning iron on a separate spare piece of wood if you are trying it out for the first time. Trust me its a lot of fun!

Hope you will enjoy making these as much as i did. They were one of the things i made for  very good friends of mine who just celebrated their engagement over the weekend. My friend is huge fan of geninne’s art and so the designs are inspired by her work.

Happy weekend y’all !

Wooden Coasters- A Simple DIY Project

September 26, 2014

Have you had one of those weekends when you don’t have any plans made with your friends but at the same time you don’t want to sit on the couch in front of the TV the whole day? We’ve all been there right? So what do we do? My husband & I took up a DIY project last weekend. Trust me at the end of the day you are going to feel good about it.

Title

Why Longhorns? Well we made these coasters for one of my husband’s friend who has a beautiful ranch house near Austin, Tx. So we thought longhorns on coasters were perfect! We were trying out the wood burning tool for the first time and the pattern was simple and easy one to begin with.

So here is a list of things you need:

Materials

1) Hot tool as a part of wood burning kit from Walnut Hollow available @ Hobbylobby

2) Wood stain (English Chestnut 233) from Minwax available @ Homedepot

3) Polycrylic protective finish (water based) from Minwax available @ Homedepot

4) &5) Brushes to apply stain and protective finish also available @ Homedepot

6) Different shapes of tips available to attach to the hot tool (part of the wood burning kit from Walnut Hollow) available @Hobbylobby

7) Sandpaper (optional)

Drawing&Burning Staining

After you are done with this step, you can let the stain dry then sand a little with a 150/180 size sandpaper and apply another coat of stain. This will give you a darker and deeper stain color. This step is optional and depends on your personal preference. If you are happy with the first coat you can go ahead and apply the protective finish after the stain has dried.

Note: We used pre-cut pieces of pine wood for the coasters. You could use any other type of wood  or shape for the same. You can increase the intricacy of the patterns once you get a grip of using the tool.

Try it out .. enjoy .. happy DIYing!
