Hello all ! Today its another DIY day here on designforsoul. If you read yesterday’s post you’ll know I mentioned watching Mad Men recently and am totally inspired by the mid century vibe. I loved ‘Peggy Olsen’s’ character played by Elizabeth Moss. Her style, creative thinking , workspace, everything . In one of the episodes they have shown a bar cart in her office and my eye naturally went to the beautiful glasses. They appear in a couple of episodes on season 4. Below a is picture for you guys. So inspired by these, today we are making DIY mid-century modern inspired glasses. If you are planning on some spring get-togethers or pool parties this is a perfect project for you . I chose the lines pattern but you could even do flowers or other shapes. Who doesn’t like a project involved with gold paint right? I bet your guests will love them too!
What you need: Gold Enamel Paint from Hobby Lobby ( available at most craft stores), brush, painter’s tape and a gold marker.
Procedure: The glasses I chose already had a checkered pattern on them so it was easy for me to draw the stripes with the marker. Put the painters tape and paint . Remember follow the instructions on the enamel paint to wait between coasts. You would need a couple of coats before you get the desired finish. After its dried bake it at 350F for 30 mins ( again check this time on the paint you have chosen )
Tip: When you buy your paint make sure it will hold on glass . If you choose normal craft colors or acrylic markers and paint , they will come off once you wash the glasses. You want to make sure the paints stay in place. Also DO NOT paint the part of the glass that would come in direct contact with the food or drink.
Well whether you are having whiskey while working like peggy olson or are sipping on infused water or are on a juice cleanse , drinking from fancy looking glasses doesn’t hurt right?
Have a great week ahead guys!
